Hofmeister

Food & Beverage

Invested£435,000

A household name throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Hofmeister ceased trading in 2003 until the brand was bought by its current co-founders and relaunched in 2017. Now British owned and proudly independent, the current owners have brought Hofmeister beer back to its former glory. Within one year of relaunch, it became the first lager ever to be rated five stars at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. With a goal to re-build this formidable brand, the company received a total £435,000 from the FSE Angel Investor Network across three funding rounds, and £300,000 equity from the Enterprise M3 Growth Fund across two funding rounds, alongside £7.8million of external investment. The funding has helped to drive the growth of the business and supported job creation with Hofmeister more than tripling its team whilst also strengthening its board. In 2023 the business had achieved turnover growth of over 600% since our initial investment, with this forecast to almost double again in the coming year.

Despite an oversubscribed funding round, we were keen to secure the involvement of FSE as we felt they would bring more to the table than money alone. That turned out to be a good decision; not only have we had ongoing Board involvement as part of the package, we have been able to access additional funding and expertise to support us on our growth journey.
