As SMEs grow, large injections of capital are often needed to move them to the next level. You may for example need to hire a new team, purchase new machinery, start exporting abroad or move to larger commercial premises in order to continue growing at the desired rate.
Yet while smaller businesses actively seek finance, many larger SMEs are put off from applying for finance in the £100k-£1.5m range. In the Midlands, this may be because there is a lower supply of private sector sources of equity finance compared to London and the South East.
